My heart aches for lost creatives.
I’ve been there.
Actually, I was there for more years than I care to admit.
I didn’t know my purpose. I was making art that didn’t resonate. No one seemed to care. I shouted into the void. I kept making art because I wanted to but it was hard to be consistent when no one gave a shit.
No matter how successful I become, I’ll always remember what it was like to be in that place. Daring to believe that there might be something more for you, but not knowing how to go about it. It’s beyond frustrating and I see it all the time.
I wish I had the magic bullet, but the main advice I give, usually boils down to keep throwing mud at the wall and eventually something will stick.
THAT IS ANNOYING ADVICE.
When I met Rosie, she was lost. We would discuss whether she should delete her instagram or start a new one and run two (don’t do this). We would talk about best practices on social media, selling prints and all the minutia. But the big picture advice was ‘just keep making stuff’, because eventually, your creative career will work itself out.
Follow your curiosity, try new things, keep making.
That’s what Rosie did and it’s working. I love this episode. I hope it resonates with you.
